State of the Art Pixar Facility

Located in what was once a cannery in Emeryville, the Pixar campus is now a state of the art facility for traditional and animated movies.

At the time of construction, Steve Jobs was a major shareholder of Pixar, and Jobs had a significant influence on the design. The building was designed by Bohlin Cywinkski & Jackson of Pittsurgh, PA. Channel Lumber provided goods and services throughout the construction process.

The scope of the project doubled during construction. The two story steel frame building has exposed structural steel which for for aesthetic reasons are bolded, not welded. There are Italian marble countertops, German hardware, a photo science room,150 seat theater, and two 50 seat screening rooms. It took contractor DPR 23 months to build.

Iconic Art Installations

Tours are by invitation only and much of the facility is closed to all tours. The foyer displays figures from recent and past hit movies. There is a campus cafe, called Luxo where employees can purchase meals. The cafe features a woodfired oven, custom burrito bowls and all service items are recyclable. Oh, and there is cereal room to boot, because who doesn’t love a mid-day cereal snack?

Other amenities are an amphitheater, a pool with paddleboards, lane swimming, and a Pixar gift store.
